The Directors Guild of Great Britain is the only organisation in the UK that represents directors across all media – film, opera, radio, television, theatre, animation and multimedia. It is a Craft Guild, offering unrivalled opportunities for its members to meet and to share and exchange expertise and skills at a wide variety of events. It pursues training at all levels for members and non-members, and promotes and celebrates the craft and art of directing through events, awards, and commemorations.
For 25 years the Guild has campaigned for directors, offering a lead in developing policy to influence the future of the industry and the protection of creative rights in every sector. In recent years it has led action within the television industry, regaining and securing royalty payments for UK television directors and has helped create far-reaching negotiated agreements with the broadcasting companies, covering Contract Guidelines for best practice in the engagement of directors and Codes of Practice in both Fiction and Non-Fiction. It also publishes model contracts, contract advice and other industry guides to members and the public.
